Weekly Markets
Nearly every day of the week, you will be able to find a market on Majorca. You should visit the weekly markets as early as possible in the morning, although they are mostly open until about 2pm, the biggest variety is to be found in the morning.
The weekly markets are probably the best way to get to know the typical Majorcan lifestyle. They still take in a very important part in the lifes of the local people.
By the way you are welcome to negotiate as much as you want, and depending on where, you should do so. The variety of products is very big, food, wine, other beverages and even animals, clothing and a bit of kitsch.
On tuesday the weekly market is in Alqueria Blanca, on the beautiful place, behind the church, one can either watch the colourful bustle or join it. The variety is small, but of highest quality. Everybody, be it tourist or local, will find what he is looking for.
Wednesdays and Saturdays is the market in Santanyi. If you come in from the "wrong" side, you will first meet up with the typicval tourist offers: scarves, handbags, Ceramic,... On the central place, in front of the church, both local and tourists buy in harmony. Good and not so expensive vegetables, both parties meet and have a nice chat : The English discuss the prices of the fincas, whilst the local gentry speaks about the strawberry prices. Quiet Funny to watch.
On Thursday Ses Salines is the place to be. On the big pace, in front of the church, the local people offer their products next to the other marketeers. Again, here you will find much more than just fruit and vegetables to negotiate about, eg. textiles and anything you might need for daily use.
On Fridays iit is amrket time in Llucmajor in teh very center, on the main place.A colourful bustle in front of the historical Town Hall and between huge fruit and vegetable stalls, with fresh Majorquin merchandise. As such a market trip might be quite tiring, one usually ends up in one of the bars or Cafes and has a nice slice of cake, which so they say are extremely good and cheap around here.
On Sundays Felanitx turns itself into one sole huge market: The old markethalls open up, their stalls filled up with fresh goods
Every single street seems to have its very own variety of goods, be it socks, plates, clothing or tools.
Kids will love to watch the great variety of birds, chicken, gouses, rabbits and other animals you can purchase here.
